Location
Ruka is located in northeastern Lapland, in the municipality of Kuusamo, near the border with Russian Karelia.
It lies roughly 1,000 km north of Helsinki, but is more accessible for international visitors due to Kuusamo Airport, which is just 30 minutes away.

The area is centered around Rukatunturi, a fell rising about 492 meters above sea level.
